Support Beth El Today

Along with giving a donation and creating a Jewish Legacy, there are other ways to contribute to Congregation Beth El. Here are some examples of ways of contributing to Beth El.

DAF Direct

DAF Direct allows you to initiate grant recommendations from your donor-advised fund (DAF) directly to the synagogue.

Gifts of Appreciated Stock

With the stock market at record highs, we have an extraordinary opportunity to take full advantage of current tax incentives. A gift of stock enables you to maximize your contribution to Beth El, maximize your charitable deduction and minimize your tax liability.

  • Any gain in a long-term appreciated asset is fully taxable if you sell it yourself, but not if you donate it to Beth El.
  • Your charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes is based on the full market value of the asset on the date the gift is received.
  • You receive a gift credit from Beth El for the full value of the asset, but the cost to you is only your original cost less the tax savings.

Transferring stock to Beth El is an easy procedure. Contact Lori Ulanow at lulanow@bethelmc.org for instructions.

Special Opportunity for Donors Age 70 ½ or Older

If you are 70 ½ or older, renewed legislation benefits you! You may make gifts to Beth El using funds in your individual retirement funds (IRAs) without incurring the undesirable tax effects traditionally associated with lifetime donations from qualified retirement accounts. Your donations can be accomplished simply. You may contribute funds this way if: You are age 70 ½ or older, the gifts total no more than $100,000, you make the gifts on or before December 31, and you transfer the funds directly from an IRA to Beth El. Contact your IRA custodian to transfer your desired gift to Beth El. We encourage you to consult with tax professionals to address specific situations. For more information contact Lori Ulanow at lulanow@bethelmc.org.

Beth El Support Foundation

The Congregation Beth of Montgomery County Support Foundation was established as a separate 501©3 organization under the Internal Revenue Code to hold and maintain Endowment Funds exclusively in support of Congregation Beth El. The income (while preserving the principal) from donations to the Support Foundation can be used at the discretion of the Support Foundation directors and donations can be directed by the donor to the following:

  1. Unrestricted Use Endowment Fund– Income to be used to support the annual operations of the synagogue
  2. Restricted Use Endowment Fund– Income to be used to fund synagogue activities/operations consistent with the relevant use restrictions
