Join us for an in-person discussion of The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride, a big-hearted historical novel about a community of Jews, Blacks, and Italians in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, in the 1920s and 1930s. The characters have different views on many things, but they somehow unite in an effort to protect a young deaf Black boy that state authorities want to institutionalize. This suspenseful, comical, heart-warming, and profound work is the winner of the 2023 Kirkus Prize for Fiction, as well as both the Barnes & Noble and Amazon “Book of Year.”
Co-sponsored by Beth El and Adas Israel through the synagogues’ libraries, the Adas Israel Sisterhood, the Women of Beth El, and the Beth El Men’s Club.
