We will post any operational changes due to inclement weather on this page. Please check back as needed.
Beth El has separate but interconnected inclement weather policies for its offices and schools. Please consult each policy below independently. If there is no schedule disruption, nothing will be posted on the website. Departments may also communicate closings via email or social media.
During a weather event, Beth El will take into consideration the MCPS inclement weather plan, but ultimately will make our own determination about closings by the morning of the event. If the Beth El office is open, programs and meetings scheduled for that day will take place. If weather conditions dictate an early closing to the office and/or building, the closing will be communicated on this page and via email.
Even when our building is closed, we will make every effort to open for our morning and evening minyan services. Morning minyan may be delayed on days when the building is closed. If the weather is severe enough, minyanim may take place via Zoom only. Service updates will be communicated on this page and via email.
The safety and well-being of our preschool community is of the utmost importance to us. In instances of inclement weather, school operations may be altered in order to maintain the safety of children, families and staff. The following policy has been created by taking MCPS weather related policies into account, while also recognizing that BEPS is a small, private school that does not utilize school bus operations. Changes to our normal operations will be announced via the Remini app.
Closures: On the first school day that MCPS is closed, BEPS will also be closed. On subsequent, consecutive school days, if MCPS closes school, BEPS will announce its own decision.
Delayed Openings: If MCPS has a delayed opening, BEPS will also have a delayed opening. This means BEPS will open at 10:15 am; co-opers should arrive at 10:00 am. There will be no Early Bird drop-off.
Early Dismissals: If MCPS closes early, BEPS will close early. This means the Core Morning Program will end at 1:00 pm and there will not be Enrichment. The Full Day Program will end at 3:00 pm.
Virtual Learning Day: If MCPS chooses to hold online school, BEPS will follow the above protocol for Closures.
For weekend classes & programs
BERS leadership will work with Congregation Beth El leadership to determine whether or not the school may safely open.
For midweek afternoon or evening classes:
In instances of inclement weather that last one day only, BERS will follow the lead of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as follows:
If MCPS closes school (code orange or code red), no BERS in-person classes or programs will be held.
If MCPS closes early (code blue), no BERS in-person classes or programs will be held that afternoon or evening.
In instances of inclement weather that last more than one day, BERS will follow the lead of MCPS on the first day, as outlined above. On subsequent, consecutive days that MCPS does not follow normal operations (code green), BERS leadership will work with Congregation Beth El leadership to determine whether or not the school may safely open. This may result in any of the following for in-person classes or programs:
opening on-time;
closing early; or
closing school for the day.
In any of these instances, BERS virtual classes will be held as usual.
We will always email affected families and will post closing announcements at WTOP.
