A New Year in Community

I love the energy of the start of the school year – the fresh haircuts, stories of summer adventures, and the excitement of meeting new classmates. On the first days of school, I carried no overdue library books, unfinished homework, or looming quizzes – just possibility.

As an adult, the High Holidays bring me that same feeling. I look forward to reconnecting – with those I’ve seen recently and those I see only during the holidays. I want to hear what is new in your life and share my own hopes, worries, and the gratitude which fills me with joy.

I love watching you reconnect with Beth El friends with hugs in the hallways, the smiles of recognition, and the deep sense of belonging.

You belong at Beth El.

Our vibrancy comes from your ideas and your willingness to partner in creating meaningful experiences. Beth El is about Shabbat – and so much more. It’s musical Friday nights and Shabbat parsha classes; Lunch & Learn with clergy and tikkun olam with Women of Beth El and Men’s Club; Beth El Family Camp in Pennsylvania and journeys to Jewish communities around the globe.

We honor our traditions and find new relevance. From Rosh Hashanah (September 22) through Simchat Torah (October 15), we look forward to celebrating with you.

I know many of us are carrying heavy loads into the new year. Stresses and divisions weigh on us all. That is why we lean on one another. There is a place for you here.

From my fellow clergy and synagogue leadership, may 5786 be filled with peace, healing, and insight. And when circumstances fall short, may you find the buoyancy you need through this special Beth El community.

Shana Tova u’Metuka – a good and sweet year.
