SUMMARY:Beth El Night at JxJ: DC Jewish Film and Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:One of the highlights of the year is almost here!  The Edlavitch DCJCC’s JxJ: DC Jewish Film and Music Festival begins on May 7 and runs through May 17. Once again\, Beth El has a special opportunity. \nTickets sales through the Beth El website are now closed. You can still join us by purchasing tickets through the JxJ website @ https://www.edcjcc.org/jxj/show/opening-night-once-upon-my-mother/ before the film sells out.  Use the coupon code: “BETHELMOTHER” to get a discount off the regular ticket price. Make sure to purchase tickets for the May 7 showing at Bethesda Row Theater. \nInspired by Roland Perez’s autobiographical novel\, Once Upon My Mother is an emotionally rich and often funny drama set in 1960s France. When Esther Perez\, a spirited Moroccan-Jewish mother of six\, refuses to accept a bleak prognosis for her newborn son born with a clubfoot\, her fierce determination to help him live “normally” shapes his life well into adulthood and creates a bond that is both powerful and complicated. Featuring music by Jewish music legend Sylvie Vartan\, who appears as herself\, this vibrant cinematic gem became a major crowd-pleaser in France\, celebrating the extraordinary\, against-all-odds devotion of a mother’s love. \nTo explore other festival screenings\, click here.

SUMMARY:Lunch and a Program: Stolpersteine: Memorializing the Victims of Nazism
DESCRIPTION:Stolpersteine (German for stumbling stones) are 4×4 inch brass plaques set into the sidewalk in front of a building where a victim of the Nazis lived or worked. They were created by German artist Gunter Demnig in 1992. Since then\, more than 100\,000 stones have been set in European cities. In 2008\, Marsha Rehns went to Wuerzburg\, Germany\, for the setting of a stone for her great-uncle\, Ignaz Rindskopf. Marsha will describe the emotional stone-setting and the book she wrote about the project and her family’s history in Germany.
