DESCRIPTION:It’s a mitzvah to hear the story of Purim! Families with children ages 0-6 are invited to join in the Purim fun at Lisa Arber’s storytelling performance of The Runaway Hamentachen. A Beth El Purim favorite\, Lisa will delight young families as she portrays each of the Purim characters in a show complete with songs and interactive opportunities throughout. \nDon’t forget to wear a costume! DESCRIPTION:Many of you have high school students who will be applying to college within the next few years. College admissions has changed so dramatically since all of us applied to school (way back in the 20th century). Today’s students face an ever-expanding list of decisions: \nShould they take the SAT or ACT? \nSubmit their scores to test-optional colleges? \nApply Early Decision or Early Action? \nFocus on grades\, extracurriculars\, summer internships\, or all of the above? \n(Phew!) \nThankfully\, there are two members of our congregation who are experts in helping teenagers and their families successfully navigate the college admissions process without becoming overwhelmed or stressed. \nJared Friedland\, Founder of the Bethesda-based test prep and college admissions firm The Playbook\, and Steve Feldman\, Founder of the tutoring\, test prep\, and admissions firm Private Prep\, will be co-leading a special interactive workshop for 9th- and 10th-graders of Beth El. \nAt a later date there will be a special Zoom presentation for Beth El parents. \nAmong other topics\, Jared and Steve will explain how students can: \n\nDiscover colleges where they will thrive academically\, socially\, and culturally.\nMaximize their chances of admission\, even to highly-selective universities and programs.\nUse extracurriculars\, summer programs\, and volunteer activities to demonstrate sought-after qualities like compassion\, leadership\, and ingenuity.\n\nThere is no cost for this special opportunity. \n
