DESCRIPTION:Join Chai Society 60+ for a screening of the film Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round. The movie tells the story of five Black students who rode a segregated carousel in 1960\, igniting one of the earliest organized interracial civil rights protests in U.S. history. Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round is the little-known story of the Jews they marched with\, Nazis they provoked\, Congressmen they inspired\, and Civil Rights leaders they became. When white Jewish suburbanites from the community near Glen Echo Amusement Park joined the Black students in picketing\, an extraordinary history-making partnership was born. \nPlease register to attend using the form below by noon on November 1. Panelists will explore the experiences and differences between American and Israeli military service\, discuss levels of American Jewish support for the armed forces\, and reflect on the significance of service to both countries. The panel discussion aims to deepen community understanding about the U.S. and Israeli militaries\, especially personnel and their families who serve\, by demystifying and resolving common misconceptions about military service. \nPlease RSVP by November 1. This event\, which starts with lunch to get to know the speakers\, is free for Beth El members and $10 for non-members.
