SUMMARY:Film Screening: Ain't No Back to a Merry-Go-Round
DESCRIPTION:Join Chai Society 60+ for a screening of the film Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round. The movie tells the story of five Black students who rode a segregated carousel in 1960\, igniting one of the earliest organized interracial civil rights protests in U.S. history. Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round is the little-known story of the Jews they marched with\, Nazis they provoked\, Congressmen they inspired\, and Civil Rights leaders they became. When white Jewish suburbanites from the community near Glen Echo Amusement Park joined the Black students in picketing\, an extraordinary history-making partnership was born. \nPlease register to attend using the form below by noon on November 1. This event is open to Beth El members only. Thank you to Beyond BEENs for organizing this event for Chai Society 60+. \n

SUMMARY:From the Cockpit to the Pentagon: A Lunch & Learn with Colonel Aaron C. Schilleci
DESCRIPTION:Join Chai Society 60+ for a thought-provoking Lunch & Learn with Beth El congregant Colonel Aaron C. Schilleci\, a decorated Army aviator and senior leader in the Army National Guard. \nColonel Schilleci will share stories and insights from more than three decades of military service\, from enlisting in the Army as a young Intelligence Analyst to becoming a master-rated helicopter pilot\, flying more than 1\,200 combat hours over Iraq and Afghanistan\, and serving in senior leadership and strategic planning roles at the Pentagon. \nBut this conversation is about more than a remarkable military career. Aaron will also reflect on his experiences through the lens of faith\, family\, and community – as a Jew\, a husband\, a father\, and a Beth El congregant. What does service mean when viewed not only through the lens of a career\, but through the people\, values\, and traditions that shape who we are? \nCome enjoy lunch\, hear from one of our own\, and get a behind-the-scenes perspective on leadership\, service\, family\, and a life dedicated to serving others. \nThe cost for lunch is $10 per person. Registration is required by Monday\, November 16\, at noon. Thank you to Senior Caucus for sponsoring this Chai Society program. \n
