SUMMARY:Parenting Book Club: Nurture the Wow
DESCRIPTION:As a first-time mom\, Rabbi Megdal is discovering how Jewish wisdom speaks to the joys and challenges of parenting small children. You are invited to join her for a fun and meaningful book club\, as we read Nurture the Wow: Finding Spirituality in the Frustration\, Boredom\, Tears\, Poop\, Desperation\, Wonder\, and Radical Amazement of Parenting. She is excited to explore this book together and learn from each other. We will meet at 9:30 am on the first Thursday of the month. Gatherings will start with a few minutes of coffee\, snacks\, and schmoozing\, followed by 45 minutes (we’re busy!) on one short chapter each month. Didn’t finish? Come anyway. We’ll make time to think\, laugh\, learn some Torah\, and talk with other parents who are figuring it out too.\nFree to attend. Register\, then pick up the book as a gift from Rabbi Megdal in her office Tues-Fri mornings (except holidays). Take a peek at the TOC here. \n

SUMMARY:Yah Echsof Meditation Group
DESCRIPTION:While classical Jewish teaching suggests “Naaseh V’Nishmah” (“first we do\, then we understand”)\, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi\, founder of Jewish Renewal\, advocated for an alternative approach. He believed that profound connection comes from first understanding one’s inner Jewish self through study\, practice\, and meditation. This monthly gathering adopts Reb Zalman’s path. We will use meditation\, chant\, and study to delve into our spiritual tradition and cultivate a deeper\, more meaningful connection to our Jewish identity. \n

SUMMARY:Civil Rights Journey to the South
DESCRIPTION:Join Rabbi Harris and members of Congregation Beth El for a trip exploring the Jewish history of the Civil Rights movement this winter\, December 13-15. The Civil Rights journey empowers and inspires participants to return home and get involved\, as they realize they have the power to make a difference. Participants will meet primary sources\, such as a reverend who collaborated with Dr. King and individuals who took part in the march from Selma to Montgomery. We will also explore Jewish involvement in the Movement and how our Passover story resonates deeply with the Civil Rights narrative. By visiting the Equal Justice Initiative\, we help participants understand that Civil Rights is not just an issue that affected certain people in the 1950s and 60s\, but continues to be a pressing concern today\, championed by various groups who feel unheard in society. \nThe cost of the trip is $1\,600 per person and includes hotel accomodations and local transportation Sunday to Tuesday; all meals from Sunday lunch to Tuesday lunch (with the exception of Monday dinner); and all admission and programming costs. Airfare is not included. Click here to view the trip itinerary. For those interested in spending Shabbat in Atlanta\, separate arrangements can be made and coordinated with Rabbi Harris. \nInterested in learning more? Join us via Zoom for an information session about the trip on Thursday\, October 15\, 7:00-8:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Meet Historian James McAuley\, Author of "Edmond de Rothschild: Finding Zion"
DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom as prize-winning author and historian James McAuley introduces his latest work of nonfiction. Edmond de Rothschild: Finding Zion offers a fresh look at Zionism\, Jewish history\, and Jewish identity at a time when these issues have taken on a new\, urgent relevance. \nBorn into the French branch of the legendary Jewish banking family\, Edmond de Rothschild was devoted to art collecting and archaeology until his passions took an unlikely turn in the 1880s. To the surprise and disapproval of many Jews and others\, he began purchasing land in Ottoman Palestine for persecuted Jewish refugees from Czarist Russia. The agricultural settlements Rothschild established lay the groundwork for what would one day become the State of Israel and also seeded some of its current complexities. \nSponsored by Beth El and Adas Israel\, with the support of the synagogue’s two Library Committees\, Adas Israel Sisterhood\, Women of Beth El\, and Beth El Men’s Club. \nCopies of Edmond de Rothschild: Finding Zion may be purchased at a 10 percent discount from Politics & Prose here. Enter the coupon code SPECIAL10 (no spaces) in the coupon code field when checking out. For the code to work\, you need to set up a Politics & Prose account\, but this is free and easy to do. \nQuestions? Contact Robin Jacobson at librarian@adasisrael.org \nPlease register using the form below to receive the Zoom link.
