Jeopardy! Who wants to be a Maccabee?

November 18, 2020 in Rabbi Fabián Werbin

Jeopardy is part of the American culture.

I am sure many of you have heard about the passing of Alex Trebek, the amazing host of “Jeopardy.”

For over three decades, Alex Trebek brought integrity, humor and intelligence to his duty as host of the famous TV show. He hosted more than 8,000 episodes of Jeopardy!

Some days ago, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, put together this article that highlighted seven special Jewish moments on Jeopardy.

As you may imagine I did not grow up watching this show with my family. In Argentina we had other shows that imitated the format of Jeopardy, but I only heard the name Jeopardy when I moved to the US.

What you also may imagine is that Hanukah is a fun holiday in Argentina (although it is always celebrated in the summer) and it is even more fun in the northern hemisphere since we receive presents in order to compete with Christmas.

It is with this spirit of fun, entertainment, strengthening our bonds, learning and getting ready for Hanukah that we invite you to join us on Sunday December 6th at 5PM to play “Who wants to be a Macabbee?” (Resembling “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” but with the format of Jeopardy).

I am sure it will be a great opportunity to “meet” again as we did when we played Shavuot Bingo back in May, but this time in a totally different layout.

For the game you will need a main computer/tablet that can be shared by many participants, where you will see the zoom, the questions and the interactions, and another device (celphone/tablet/ computer) that you will use to answer the questions.

Please RSVP at  to get the link for Sunday December 6th.

Meanwhile I share with you another article about Alex Trebec’s legacy from a Jewish perspective.
