Covid-19 Response Update

August 18, 2020 in General

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Beth El is practicing social distancing but spiritual nearness. As the community works to resume in-person activities, we are open – for services, to provide support for lifecycle needs, for school and education programs and more. Don’t miss our live stream and updates about in-person activities.

Beth El’s virtual services, classes, and other activities are ongoing. To reach clergy or staff, please send an email or call the main office at 301-652-2606. We check emails and voicemails except on Shabbat and holidays.  We ask for your patience if we don’t respond right away, as many of us are working remotely.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had wide ramifications.  We are aware that there have been acute financial consequences for many. With the generosity of an anonymous donor, funds are available for members unable to cover the costs of basic needs such as rent/mortgage, utility bills, food, etc.  Contact Rabbi Harris at  All inquiries will remain confidential.

Beth El clergy, staff, and volunteers will continue to make every effort to assist those in need during this difficult time. If you, or someone you know, needs some additional support, please contact Lori Ulanow at or Ricardo Munster at

In case of a life cycle emergency, you will be able to reach the clergy:

Staying current

As circumstances change, we will keep you current via email. If you use social media, please “like” Beth El’s Facebook page. That will help make sure that you see posts highlighting upcoming activities. Now, more than ever, it is important for all congregants to be on the synagogue listserv in order to receive the latest information about everything that is happening at Beth El. From services and classes to social groups and meetings, the listserv has it all. To be added to the listserv, please contact Sara Greenbaum at or 301-652-2606, ext. 102, or Pam Kocher at or ext. 103.

Assistance Available

Beth El clergy, staff, and volunteer congregants are available and happy to assist those in need with shopping, transportation, etc. during this difficult time. If you or someone you know needs some additional support, please contact Ricardo Munster at
