MITZVAH IDEAS
• Call or visit a friend or relative who is not well. (any age)
• Make a home-made Tzedakah box for your home. When it is full, have the entire family decide where the money should go. (family)
• Put a Tzedakah Box by your washing machine to gather all of the loose change you find in the pockets of your clothes. (family)
• Go to your local dry cleaners. Offer to distribute unclaimed items to individuals in need. (adult)
• Go to your local bagel store or bakery and collect end of the day supplies to bring to a shelter or community dinner program. (adult – with kids)
• Make sandwiches for the homeless. (family)
• Help plant flowers in an elderly neighbor’s garden. (family)
• Volunteer to help an elderly neighbor weed their garden or mow the lawn. (teenager – and others)
• Visit residents of nursing homes and bring flowers from your garden. (family)
• Offer to give manicures for residents of nursing homes. (Teenager girls and women)
• Collect new stuffed animals, teddy bears, and Beanie Babies (and other similar items) for distribution to kids in hospitals. (children with parents)
• Include a craft project at childrens’ birthday parties that get donated to the Children’s Inn (creative boxes, picture frames, cards…). (children and parents)
• Attend a daily minyan (post bar-mitzvah age and adults)
• Make or take a meal to someone who is ill, is facing difficult times. (family)
• Collect new and gently used books for disadvantaged schools, shelters; tape children’s stories. (family; elementary school age and older)
• Find a park and pick up litter. (family)
• Step up recycling efforts. (family)
• Help an older person (or computer challenged person) learn how to e-mail grandchildren/other family members or use the web. (family)
