Community Partners for Mitzvah Projects
Beth El has developed special relationships with local community organizations in Montgomery County. The Beth El community is actively working with these groups in a variety of ways. This includes efforts which are cross-generational and occurring throughout different auxiliaries at the synagogue. Your work will be building off the on-going efforts of our community and deepening the impact we are collectively making.

At Interfaith Works (formerly Community Ministry of Montgomery County) we are focused on helping our neighbors: people who live in poverty in one of the most affluent communities in the country. Our programs include homeless services, housing, family services, clothing centers, and emergency support programs that provide - assistance to individuals and families who have a hard time making ends meet in our high cost community. We also educate and bring together thousands of youth, seniors, and members of congregations and civic groups to give voice and seek solutions to the issues of poverty in our community.
A Wider Circle
Each day A Wider Circle provides furniture and other basic need items to families transitioning out of shelters or simply living without life’s necessities. We also go into low-income schools and shelters to lead educational workshops on topics ranging from healthy self-esteem and stress management to resume writing and financial planning.
Thousands of mothers watching their children go to sleep each night in beds rather than on the floor. Children picking out their school clothes each morning from dressers rather than plastic garbage bags. Low-income, pregnant adolescents receiving the care-taking skills needed to raise healthy babies. Recently-homeless parents learning – and putting into practice – the basic life skills needed to find and retain a job. The mission of A Wider Circle is simple: to help individuals and families lift themselves out of poverty.
Children’s Inn at NIH
The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health is a residential "place like home" for sick children and their families. Children come from across the country and around the world to stay together with their families in The Inn’s healing environment while receiving groundbreaking medical treatments at the NIH, the world’s leading biomedical research center. While the NIH takes care of the child’s medical needs, The Inn tends to the child’s heart, soul and spirit.

Israel
HAMA
HAMA is committed to the healing of human violence directed towards people and animals alike through Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). We work in close cooperation with public social welfare agencies, hospitals, and educational institutions. The organization has long been a leader in establishing AAT as a complementary therapy to conventional psychological/medical treatment. The unique and mutual bonding between human and animal welfare is the cornerstone of our philosophy and activities. Those animals rescued and rehabilitated from human violence, abuse and neglect, as well as from injury and abandonment in time of war, have in many cases become important facilitators of human recovery and rehabilitation through personal empowerment and mutual healing.
We are a pluralistic organization that adheres to the mission of tolerance, mutual respect, and healing - all component values of Tikun Olam.
MELED
MELED supports youths who have dropped out of high school into reintegrating back into a learning environment, into their families and communities and into positive Jewish identity. It is our mission to get these young men and women back on their feet so that they may fulfill their potential as positive contributors to Israel and the Jewish people.
At Meled we convey acceptance, continuously, of youths who have experienced alienation at school and, possibly, at home. We provide choice: each student decides what he or she can realistically undertake to learn, under the guidance of the school's professional staff. We encourage being part without forcing the issue. We reward with love each student's showing up. We respect differences. We affirm Jewish values.
Israel Children’s Center
There are 14 Israel Tennis Centers (ITC) throughout Israel, from Kiryat Shmona to Beer Sheva. Their programs promote the social, psychological and physical development of Israeli children, providing normalcy, recreation, guidance and self-confidence in a safe, nurturing environment. Moreover they help guarantee a bright future for the State of Israel.
