Softball Team

Reminder - no game next week, Memorial Day weekend.  Next game June 1.

For the many who missed today, it was ugly.  To state it plainly, we stunk.  We were swept by 15-3 and 18-9.  For the second week in a row, our offense virtually disappeared.  After starting out 5-0, we've now lost 4 of our last 5.  Our team batting and slugging averages have fallen about 50 points on each of the last two Sundays.  So let's enjoy the week off and hopefully return with our hitting strokes intact again.

There were a few noteworthy performances today.  According to the scorebook, the big hitter today was that old coot some of you call El Capitain, who was 4 for 5 with two home runs (both of them CRUSHED), 5 RBI's, and 4 runs scored.  Steve Solomon, no doubt motivated by the presence of son Ian, was 3 for 6 including a triple and scored 3 times, and also played sterling defense in right field.  Ian, making his team debut, got a solid hit in his first at-bat and played flawless defense at third base.  There was one other debut on the day, the season's first appearance of Danny Pine, who was 2 for 6 with 3 runs scored and was in vintage mid-season form with his typical anguished scream after he popped up.  Ken Levine added to his considerable reputation for speed by getting called out for leaving first base early, becoming the first guy ever listed in the scorebook for getting "caught stealing".  And - more typically - his laborious move to first after fielding a routine grounder was too late to get the runner.  David Letterman would have a hard time selecting the top 10 Levine stories.
